SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Gbenga Salu was born in Lagos-Nigeria. He had his primary and secondary school education also in Lagos. Presently, he is a student of mechanical engineering in the University of Lagos.
With just a year on campus-where he is best known as masterstroke, his cartoons where well known and loved by students. Months later, Gbenga joined a local newspaper house, The Examiner, on a freelance basis, where he began a strip he called Zubby. The local newspaper folded up three months after he joined. This was a big blow on his cartoon career, but Gbenga would not let go easily, as he pressed on further and now, to a higher ground.
As fate would have it, Gbenga was going to cartoon along with his cartoon role models, when he got a freelance contract with The Punch newspaper. This was indeed a dream come true for him. And due to the brilliancy he exhibited, Gbenga was asked to handle a popular Saturday cartoon column when the original handler, Kingsley Okoronkwo (kaycee) was on his annual leave. This he did brilliantly.
Gbenga Salu's cartoons has also been in many magazines both on and off campus, some of which includes campus dynamix, The mechanical engineer and Society magazine. Capitalizing on the experience he has gained, he started a Bi-monthly campus cartooon magazine. The maiden edition surfaced on th 25th of April 2002. He sees this magazine becoming a phenomenon, cos nothing like this has being done here in Nigeria.
One amazing and outstanding quality about his talent is that, he has never being a student of Fine art! This goes a long way to confirm him as a raw talent. Though he is presently, a third year student of mechanical engineering Gbenga desires to study fine art in a World acclaimed Art school. He has a very kin interest in animation.
Indeed, Gbenga Salu is a young and talented cartoonist that undoubtedly has a bright and success-filled cartoon career.
